Studies in Linguistics, Culture, and FLT

Studies in Linguistics, Culture, and FLT (SILC) is an open access journal published three times a year by the Department of English Studies, Faculty of Humanities at Konstantin Preslavsky University of Shumen.


Originally, SILC contained articles written by members of the Department of English Studies and Ph.D. students from Shumen University. In 2016 SILC evolved into a journal publishing scholarly articles by researchers from universities in Bulgaria and abroad. Since 2018 it has been published three times a year.


The journal publishes articles, reviews and research papers in the following areas related to English Studies: Linguistics, Applied Linguistics, Literature, Comparative/Contrastive Linguistics, Conversation Analysis, Critical Discourse Analysis, Cultural Studies, Discourse Analysis, Ethnography of Communication, Foreign Language Teaching, Teacher Training and Professional Development, Functional Grammar, Text/Corpus Linguistics, Gesture/Sign/Visual Forms of Communication, Intercultural Communication, Language Ideology, Language Policy, Language Socialization, Linguistic Anthropology, Literacy Studies, Literature and Civilisation, Media Studies, Narrative Studies, Pragmatics, Second Language Acquisition, English for Special Purposes, Social Semiotics, Translation Studies. We strive to publish at least 15 papers per year. Each article undergoes double blind peer-review and is attributed a https://doi.org/10.46687.


SILC is fully Open Access, which means that all published articles are freely available without charge to the authors, their institutions or the readers in accordance with the definition of open access of the Budapest Open Access Initiative (BOAI).
